Pollution and Cold Weather Risks : In winter, air pollution i.e. poor quality of air can have a dangerous effect on our health. The cocktail of both can become fatal for those people who are already suffering from respiratory problems. In a recent study, these patients have also been warned to avoid air pollution in winter. Actually, particulate matter (PM) present in pollution like nitrogen dioxide (NO2) and ozone (O3) can cause respiratory problems. Since their danger is already higher in cold, they can even die.

How dangerous is the cocktail of pollution and cold?
Scientists presented the results of the Intermountain Health Study at the American Heart Association’s 2024 Scientific Sessions international conference in Chicago. It was told that after studying 115 different proteins in a special way, it was found that they indicate increased irritation and swelling in the body.
This study revealed that CCL27 and IL-18 inflammation markers were increased in heart failure patients. All of them lived in bad air. Many previous researches have also found that patients suffering from certain problems like heart failure, coronary disease, asthma and COPD were facing many dangers due to air pollution.

Pollution and cold are fatal for these patients
1. Air pollution and winter weather can be fatal for patients with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
2. Air pollution and winter season are dangerous for patients with heart diseases. His heart problems may increase. The risk of heart attack and heart failure may increase.
3. Poor air quality and cold can be fatal for diabetic patients, because due to this their blood sugar level can increase.
4. Pollution and cold weather can be more harmful and dangerous for children and the elderly.
Ways to protect health from pollution in cold weather
Check the quality of air inside the house and use an air purifier if necessary.
Wear a mask if you need to go out.
Do exercise or physical activities indoors only.
Avoid smoking and alcohol completely.
Consume only healthy things.
Get enough sleep.
Keep in touch with the doctor regularly.
